Lihit Lab Pencil Case

Lihit lab is a stationery company from Japan and probably one of the most interesting and exciting stationery accessory companies I’ve come across.
Most of my experience with them have been with their cases and pouches and they have all been well thought out and practical in my experience. My most recent purchase from their line is this Pencil case, which I’ve been carrying as a mobile office kit every day.
I’ve talked a lot about my need for a mobile office, which is mostly born out of a need to be prepared and light weight. I don’t like not being prepared and I like having specific items of stationery with me at all times, whilst not having to carry out additional weight if not necessary, so this particular pencil case fit the bill when I went pencil case shopping.
My everyday stationery carry normally consists of:
- 2 fountain pens
- Gel pens
- An Eraseable gel pen
- Pencil
- Post it notes (2 sizes)
- Highlighter
- Eraser
- Sticky Flags
The Lihit lab pencil case fits all of these items in a small profit and keeps it all reasonably organised within the case. The case is also very light – on its own, it weighs in at 62 grams, and fully loaded with the items above, it weighs about 200 grams (depending on what you put in it).
The material of the case (some sort of Cordura I think) holds up really well to daily wear and tear – this case goes with me to and from work everyday in a briefcase, and to different locations within the work campus and I’ve used it non stop for about 9 months without any noticeable issues. There is a small ink stain – but that’s to be expected when dealing with fountain pens. There’s a bit of padding in the case itself that will protect your pens from low impact falls or drops but I wouldn’t count on it protecting your pens indefinitely.
The only downside is that there your pens will touch and move about – especially if they are of the unclipped variety. So depending on how full the rest of your case is, you may get some minor scratches with your pens moving about. The other downside (minor in my opinion) is that if you store items on both sides of the case, you may dent your things on the other side. You can see on my large post it notes that the pen clips have scuffed the top of the post it notes a bit. Not a big deal for how I use the case, but I’d not suggest you put expensive pens on both sides if you can help it.
This has been a great little case for my needs and the size helps me from over stuffing it with stationery I don’t need as well. I really recommend it if you don’t want to lug around something large every day.
